About David Leiter (The Owner)
Hi, I’m David Leiter, and welcome to my travel blog!
I’m an American who has been traveling the world full-time for the past eight years. These days, I often find myself in beautiful Bali, Indonesia, with my wife, Intan.
My passion for travel began in 2016 with a solo road trip across Iceland. On a tight budget, I spent a month driving 7,000 kilometers around the country, sleeping in the back of a rental car and filming Iceland’s breathtaking scenery. One of my first videos garnered a few million views and was even featured on international TV by BBC Travel.
Since that trip, I’ve ventured solo to numerous developing countries, exploring nearly every country in Asia, Central America, and the Middle East. Along the way, I’ve faced my share of challenges, from experiencing the 7.0 Lombok earthquake in Indonesia in 2018 and the bombings in Bangkok in 2019 to navigating scams, illnesses, car accidents, and other unexpected events.
Despite these challenges, I’ve been fortunate to have some incredible adventures, including:
- Hiking to Mount Everest Base Camp in the Himalayas
- Climbing an erupting volcano in Guatemala
- Trekking across glaciers in Patagonia and visiting Iguazu Falls in Argentina
- Encountering wild Komodo dragons and orangutans in Indonesia
- Sleeping in treehouses in Bali and witnessing the blue fire in Java
- Dining on exotic fare like tarantulas and scorpions in Cambodia
- Riding a camel to the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt
- Skydiving over paradise in Oahu, Hawaii
- Visiting timeless world monuments such as the Taj Mahal, Tikal, Bagan, Machu Picchu, Hagia Sophia, Angkor Wat, Petra, and Himeji Castle
In 2018, I set a personal record by traveling to 24 countries in a single year! I managed to do this on a modest budget, often spending less than $30 per day, including lodging and food.
I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s definitely on my list! I’m always on the lookout for new adventures.
I hope my travel blog inspires you and helps you on your own journeys. Thanks for visiting, and happy travels!
About Intan (David's Wife)
My Wife, Intan
I met my wonderful wife and full-time travel companion, Intan, while traveling in Asia in 2017, and two years later, we tied the knot on a beautiful beach in Bali, Indonesia.
Intan is a homegrown Balinese with a diverse background—she’s a former English teacher and makeup artist. Her name, which means “diamond,” truly reflects her sparkling personality. She grew up riding a scooter around Bali and is tri-lingual, speaking three languages fluently.
She’s been an invaluable translator for me, especially in remote areas of Indonesia where English isn’t commonly spoken, such as Banggai, Labengki, and the Banyak Islands.
Intan has a passion for people and loves discovering new foods, especially Asian cuisine. While hiking isn’t her favorite activity, she still joins me on volcano hikes and other adventures, bringing her own unique spirit to each journey.
We’ve been exploring the world together as a couple for over five years, spending much of our time on her beautiful home island of Bali. We have some exciting international trips planned for 2024, and we hope you’ll join us on this journey!
Stay tuned for more adventures!
